The BYD Atto 3 is receiving a significant update for 2024, with its launch in India scheduled for 10 July. This update includes a new color option, Cosmos Black, a larger 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display, and two new interior color schemes.
The most noteworthy development is BYD’s attainment of ARAI homologation certification, which lifts the 2500-unit cap imposed on CBU and SKD models. This certification will enable BYD to transition the Atto 3 from an SKD to a CKD model, thereby reducing costs.
The price reduction will be facilitated by the introduction of a lower-spec variant. While it features the same battery pack, it offers a claimed range of 264km. In comparison, the fully loaded Atto 3 boasts a range of 512km on a full charge, with potential for an extended-range version offering a WLTP range of 565km.
The BYD Seal has quietly garnered success over the past two years, appealing to buyers seeking a distinctive alternative to current electric cars and willing to invest in premium options. Although it currently occupies a unique pricing segment, it will soon face competition from upcoming models like the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra BE range, and offerings from Toyota, Volkswagen, and Skoda.
