Toyota Fortuner is one of the most famed products that a ton of prominent politicians use for their daily commute because of the nature of work and the places they need to visit.
Here’s a Toyota Fortuner that runs on steel wheels as opposed to alloy wheels. It belongs to a politician from Telangana. His car caught attention when it recently arrived at a gathering. Of course, it is a bit weird for a vehicle of this stature and price point. However, there is a very specific reason for this. Let us discuss what that is in detail here.
The video has been posted by on Instagram. The convoy of the politician with SUVs is seen. However, the Fortuner at the front comes with wheel covers on steel rims. The description reads ‘Find the odd thing out”??’ Clearly, the steel wheels look so out of place on this SUV. But the real reason for this is that this is a bulletproof vehicle. It runs on run-flat tyres. Such tyres have the capability to run for a long time even after getting hit by a bullet. The regular alloys don’t have that ability.
There are various ways to make run-flat tyres. This includes developing tyres using a ton of extra rubber making it super heavy. But the multiple layers allow the vehicle to keep moving for a significant distance because the bullet is not able to penetrate until the core. Additionally, there are some tyres that have self-sealing properties that allow the hole from the bullet to get healed on its own. A few armoured vehicles even have the Central Tyre Inflation System that fills the air in tyres after detecting the loss of pressure.
Specifications:
The Toyota Fortuner comes powered by a 2.7-litre petrol unit (164 bhp / 245 Nm) and a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine (201 bhp / 420 Nm). It is paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. With the automatic transmission, the torque produced is a massive 500 Nm with the diesel mill. There is plenty of off-roading equipment on offer to make it immensely capable in terrains without tarmac roads. The prices of the SUV range from Rs 32.40 lakh to Rs 49.57 lakh, ex-showroom.
