BMW has unveiled the second generation of its 2 Series Gran Coupe, enhancing its entry-level sedan with advancements in technology, comfort, and efficiency. The new 2 Series Gran Coupe has grown slightly, with an extended length of 4,546mm (20mm more than its predecessor) and a wheelbase of 2,670mm. The width remains at 1,800mm, while the height has increased by 25mm to 1,445mm.

Under the hood, BMW offers a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 170bhp (156bhp from the combustion engine and an extra 20bhp from an electric motor) and 280Nm of torque. The 220 Gran Coupe accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. This engine is paired with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, incorporating an electric motor within the seven-speed automatic gearbox, which acts as a starter generator to boost power or efficiency as needed. The electric motor contributes 20bhp and 55Nm, while a 48-volt battery under the trunk stores energy recaptured through adaptive braking, generating up to 15kW during deceleration. Additionally, there is an M235 model equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering 300bhp and 400Nm of torque, available with all-wheel drive.

BMW’s Leipzig plant will handle production of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe, with customer deliveries in select European markets expected to begin in March 2025.
