Riding for the Gresini Racing Ducati Team, Marc Marquez delivered a masterclass performance at the Aragon GP Sprint, leading the race from start to finish with unmatched authority. The Spaniard’s dominance was evident as he crossed the finish line nearly three seconds ahead of Jorge Martin.
Masterful Marquez
Marquez, a long-time favorite at Motorland Aragon, showed his speed and competitiveness right from the start of the race weekend. Starting the Sprint from Pole, Marquez quickly established a comfortable lead, leaving his competitors in the dust.
Behind him, chaos unfolded as Aleix Espargaro of the Factory Aprilia team crashed out on the first corner of the opening lap. Unfazed, Marquez continued to set a blistering pace that neither Martin in P2 nor Acosta in P3 could match.
Marquez ultimately crossed the finish line in P1, much to the delight of the Gresini Racing team. They had even more reason to celebrate, as Alex Marquez, riding the second Gresini bike, finished in a strong fourth place.
Pecco’s Struggles
Meanwhile, Ducati Lenovo Team’s Pecco Bagnaia endured a difficult Sprint. Starting from the dusty side of the circuit, Pecco experienced wheelspin at the start, forcing him to momentarily back off the throttle to regain control. This brief setback allowed several riders to pass him, causing him to drop down the order.
As the race progressed, Bagnaia came under increasing pressure from KTM Factory Racing’s Brad Binder, who eventually overtook him. Bagnaia then lost further positions to Miguel Oliveira on the Trackhouse Aprilia and his own teammate, Enea Bastianini.
Adding to his challenges, Fabio Quartararo on the Factory Yamaha also managed to pass Bagnaia, moving up to P8. In the end, Pecco had to settle for P9, a result that dealt a significant blow to his championship hopes. Jorge Martin, with his second-place finish, reclaimed the championship lead with a three-point advantage.
The main race of the Aragon GP is set to take place today at 5:30 PM IST.
