Yesterday, Kia unveiled the first teaser images of its highly anticipated Clavis SUV, set to arrive in India by 2025. Hot on the heels of this reveal, spy shots of the vehicle’s rear seating area have also emerged, offering a glimpse into the comfort and features the SUV will offer to passengers.
The rear seat configuration showcases a split-folding bench with a spacious central armrest, enhancing comfort for passengers. Additionally, the photos highlight dual air conditioning vents, USB-C charging ports, a convenient storage slot, and seat back pockets for added utility and organization.
Positioned as Kia’s second compact SUV, the Clavis will fill the gap between the popular Sonet and the larger Seltos in the brand’s lineup. It is expected to share a platform and underpinnings with the Sonet, but with increased rear-seat space—a crucial improvement, as the Sonet has often been critiqued for its relatively tight rear passenger area. The Clavis will likely offer two engine options: a 1.0-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both options will come with manual and automatic transmission variants.
Kia, following the example of its sister brand Hyundai, has adopted a strategy of offering multiple models to cater to different segments of the market, boosting overall sales volume. While the Seltos and Carens target higher segments, the Sonet and Clavis will cater to customers seeking more compact, affordable options.
