Jeep, the American-based manufacturer, had announced its entry into the Indian market during the 2k16 Auto Expo.
At the 2k16 Auto Expo, Jeep had showcased its vehicles out of which the Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee in its three variants have been launched recently in India at very hefty price tags as they are brought in India via the CBU route from the Jeep’s plant in North America.
Apart from these models, Renegade was also showcased at the Auto Expo and it has been spied while testing for many times in India.
Now, it has been spied again on the streets of Pune at two different locations on the same day. Coincidence! Both the Renegades were heavily camouflaged.
Jeep has imported both of its variants to India. We aren’t still sure if the Renegade will be launched in India or not as India is now a part of Jeep’s Global Testing Location. So, there might be a possibility that this car has been imported for testing purpose only in India.
The company recently unveiled its C-SUV, the Jeep Compass and it will be launched in India in the next year. The Jeep Compass is based on the Renegade and even if the Renegade will be launched in our country, we can expect it to be launched post Jeep Compass’s launch. The Compass though being based on the Renegade gets its styling cues from the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and the Compass will be produced in India and hence it will be priced very aggressively, within a price range of Rs. 25 lakhs.
Internationally, the Renegade is powered with two petrol engines, one is the 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine which makes 160 BHP, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox whereas the other 2.4L naturally aspirated engine makes 180 BHP and it is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Jeep confirms the Renegade to be a thorough offroader even being smaller in size as compared to its siblings.
