Last year saw the discontinuation of the petrol version of the Jeep Compass in India, leading to a rise in the starting price of the entry-level Compass compared to its competitors. To address this, the carmaker launched the diesel automatic variant at a more competitive price point of Rs. 23.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Known for its superior fuel efficiency compared to petrol models, we took the 4X2 version for a spin to gauge its real-world performance.

Before delving into its mileage, let’s take a look at its powertrain options. The 2WD variant is equipped with Jeep’s 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine, generating 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the same gearbox found in the higher 4WD AT models.
City Mileage of the Jeep Compass 4×2 Diesel Automatic
Taking the Compass on our routine city test route, we filled up the tank and recorded its fuel consumption. The SUV consumed 6.91 litres of diesel, covering 76.1km, translating to a real-world mileage of 10.99kmpl. This closely aligns with the 11.4kmpl fuel economy displayed on the instrument cluster.
Highway Mileage of the Jeep Compass 4×2 Diesel Automatic
A similar test was conducted on our highway route, where the Compass consumed 4.76 litres of fuel, covering 86.2km, resulting in a mileage of 18.1kmpl. Once again, this mirrors the fuel efficiency of 20.2kmpl indicated on the MID. These figures, along with its overall fuel economy, are commendable for an SUV weighing over 1.5 tons.
