Hyundai has advanced its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of its latest all-electric model, the Inster EV. Positioned as the smallest and most cost-effective electric SUV in Hyundai’s global portfolio, the Inster EV builds upon the platform of its internal combustion engine counterpart, the Casper.

Design-wise, the Inster EV inherits the Casper’s distinctive modern-retro aesthetics, characterized by its youthful and quirky appeal. At the front, circular LED DRLs encircle the headlamp cluster, while a prominent black pill-shaped housing integrates the front camera, headlamps, ADAS sensor, and charging port. Above this, the Inster showcases pixel-themed turn indicators embedded in a black bar spanning the width, adding a touch of contemporary flair.

The SUV’s side profile features robust wheel arches accommodating up to 17-inch four-spoke wheels. Pillar-mounted rear door handles, functional roof rails, and large windows contribute to its SUV-like appearance and functionality.

Moving to the rear, the Inster EV boasts pixel-themed light bars extending to the centrally positioned Hyundai logo. A roof spoiler with an integrated high-mounted stop lamp complements the design, along with wheel arches that extend to a protruding bumper housing circular taillamps and parking lights.

In terms of dimensions, the Inster measures 3,825mm in length, 1,610mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,580mm. The SUV offers a practical boot capacity of 280 litres, expandable to 351 litres with sliding rear seats.

The Inster will be available in a variety of nine exterior paint colors, including Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, Bijarim Khaki Matte, Unbleached Ivory, Sienna Orange Metallic, Aero Silver Matte, Dusk Blue Matte, Abyss Black Pearl, and Buttercream Yellow Pearl.

Inside the cabin, the Inster EV features a utilitarian yet modern design approach. The dashboard houses a sizable 10.25-inch infotainment screen complemented by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Additional interior amenities include auto climate control, a wireless charger, and a multi-functional steering wheel with a column-mounted drive mode selector. Noteworthy features also include ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround camera system, ambient lighting, a blind-spot monitor, sunroof, and an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite.

Powering the Inster EV are two battery options: a 42kWh unit and a 49kWh battery reserved for the long-range variant. Both configurations utilize a single motor setup capable of delivering 95bhp for the standard version and 113bhp for the long-range variant, with 147Nm of torque across the range. Hyundai claims a maximum driving range of up to 355km on a single charge. Charging the Inster from 10 to 80 percent takes less than 30 minutes using a 120kW DC fast charger.

Hyundai’s Inster EV represents a significant step forward in the realm of electric mobility, offering practicality, modern design, and advanced technology in a compact SUV package. With its blend of efficiency, range, and features, the Inster is poised to appeal to a wide range of environmentally conscious consumers seeking an accessible and stylish electric vehicle option.
