The low cost fuel-injection technology will debut on a Hero product in early 2015 and will compete against Bosch’s newly developed low cost fuel-injection system.

maxresdefaultChurning up a profitable year in India with the stupendous success of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT, Fiat owned Magneti Marelli is eyeing the country as one of its critical markets and also plans to offer a range of other mobility solutions to various manufacturers. In a recent interview, Saju Mookken, Managing Director and Country Manager, Magneti Marelli India confirmed that the Italian company will introduce its low-cost fuel injection technology for two-wheelers that will debut in Hero MotoCorp’s range of two-wheelers.Mr. Sokken stated that the affordable Magneti Marelli fuel injection technology will be available on a Hero motorcycle that will be ready by early 2015. While details on the product in question was not disclosed, we do think that the model equipped with the FI technology could be the HX250R scheduled to go on sale next year. Hero’s new flagship, the HX250R will be the perfect product to showcase the capabilities of the fuel-injection system that could later find its way on to the Hero Zir 150cc scooter as well as the Hastur sports bike, both of which will carry fuel-injected systems on the production model. The sub-250cc segment commands the majority of sales in emerging markets like India and South East Asia. Due to the expensive technology, fuel-injection is only available on a handful of two-wheelers that come with a rather escalated pricing. Nonetheless, affordable fuel injection systems will certainly encourage more two-wheeler manufacturers to adopt the technology that offers improved fuel efficiency and throttle response. More recently, Bosch too showcased its new low cost fuel injection technology that has been developed for emerging markets and is also looking to offer its system to Indian two-wheeler makers.
