The EV race is getting intense as Mahindra plans to launch products across segments that will be powered by an electric powertrain.
In this latest spotting, the Mahindra Atom EV quad-cycle was seen in the near-production guise. Mahindra announced its plans regarding the future of EVs in the passenger vehicle segment earlier this year. The Atom will cater to an entirely different set of audience. It is designed for last-mile connectivity efforts. Being a two-door EV, it will be curated toward the commercial space. Therefore, we might see it in action as a delivery vehicle that will be capable of reaching almost any part of the country.

Looking at the images of the spied version, one can clearly witness the boxy design that is prominent among commercial vehicles. The exterior looks quite bare-bone and rugged. At the front, the bonnet is quite compact as there is no engine making it look neat and short. The headlamps are squarish and the front section is quite tiny. This test mule features a single wiper that will cover the entire area of the windshield. On the sides, there are 3 segments.
Out of this, the middle glass area seems to be the main window and the other two are fixed glass sections. The roof is flat and the rear windshield is almost upright. At the rear, horizontal taillamps are visible and the bumper is quite upright. Being a two-door minivan, the area inside the cabin is designed for maximum space for luggage.
Showcased at Auto Expo 2020
Mahindra showcased the Atom at the Auto Expo 2020. However, the pandemic led to a delay in developing the production version. Now that the world is almost back on its feet, we might see the launch of the Atom soon. There are no details of the specifications as yet. But we can expect Mahindra to release it closer to the launch. What are your thoughts on the Mahindra Atom EV?
