In the hills of Colorado, a group of dedicated men and women build some amazing hand crafts: which they prefer calling ‘Xpedition’ vehicles, as these vehicles are built on monster sized Ford F-550’s truck chassis, equipped with punchy V8 engines, capable four-wheel drive, and extensive living quarters. Those folks are part of EarthRoamer, the XV-LTS (‘S’ for stretch) is their rough-and-tumble product, and one of these was recently bought by a renowned American singer, songwriter, musician and producer John Mayer.
Mayer took a moment to pose with the sizable vehicle outside of the EarthRoamer factory, adding the picture below on Instagram.
“I am a proud owner of this most formidable go-anywhere, live-anywhere vehicle. One year and many meetings in the making, she’s all mine. Completely hand built in Colorado by extremely talented and innovative men and women. Who knows where I’ll end up next. #EarthRoamer #Ford”
If Mayer does venture through the streets of downtown in Los Angeles in his new XV-LTS , he won’t make it through the paparazzi. Measuring in at over 26 feet long, the Ford F-550 based EarthRoamer is hard to miss, though it does make room for quite a lot of gear.
Inside, the XV-LTS packs an King size overcab bunk, optional in-motion Satellite TV, Dual Pane acrylic windows with Intefrated Sunshine and Bugscreen, Alluminium Bullbar, Fog-Lamps, storage cabinets, a bathroom (only in Stretch models), shower, kitchen, and seating for up to eight (driver included). Under the bonet, houses the powerful 6.7-liter power stroke V8 turbo-diesel F-550 sports four-wheel drive which produces good 300HP and 660 lb-ft of torque.
Factfile: Adventurer and nature photographer Bill Swails started the company back in 1998 with the intention to bring RV comfortability to the world’s most remote areas. Over a decade and a half later, his rugged creations are allowing ‘XVers’ to do just that.
