Maruti Suzuki has officially confirmed the imminent launch of the next-generation Swift, slated for release next month. Set to hit the Indian market in the second week of May, here’s a roundup of everything we know about the eagerly awaited model thus far.

First unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo back in October 2023, the all-new Swift has since made its debut in Japan, the UK, and selected European markets. Marking the arrival of its fourth-generation iteration, the new Swift is equipped with a fresh 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine. However, for the Indian market, it’s anticipated that Maruti Suzuki will persist with the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine to maintain cost-effectiveness.

Dimensions of the new Maruti Swift showcase a length of 3,860mm, width of 1,735mm, and height of 1,495mm for the front-wheel drive variant. Additionally, Suzuki offers an all-wheel drive version standing at 1,520mm tall. With a wheelbase of 2,450mm, the Swift exhibits varying track widths depending on the drive configuration, with the India-spec model expected to feature front-wheel drive exclusively.

Built upon the HEARTECT platform, a well-known Suzuki foundation renowned for its lightweight yet sturdy construction, the new Swift has undergone significant structural enhancements and component layout adjustments during development. These refinements have led to the adoption of a highly rigid frame aimed at bolstering collision safety. As for modifications tailored for the India-spec model, details remain undisclosed at this stage.

Under the hood, a new three-cylinder petrol engine debuts with the new Swift, boasting a maximum power output of 82bhp and a slightly elevated torque figure of 112Nm at 4,500rpm. Acceleration performance sees improvement, with a 5 percent reduction in acceleration time to 100kmph, clocking in at 12.5 seconds for the manual model and 11.9 seconds for the optional CVT variant. However, it’s anticipated that the India-specific model will retain the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder powertrain, delivering 89bhp and 113Nm of torque.
