Triumph Motorcycles India has added another motorcycle to its Modern Classics’ portfolio by launching the new Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster. The motorcycle has been launched at a price tag of Rs. 11.12 lakhs (ex-showroom, India).
The new Speedmaster is based on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber’s platform. Thus, the new Speedmaster shares its engine with the Bobber. It is the same 1200cc, parallel-twin powerplant, which delivers 76 BHP at 6100 rpm and peak torque of 106 Nm at 4000 rpm. All the power is transmitted to the rear wheel via. a 6-speed gearbox. The electronics on the new Speedmaster include – two power modes (Road and Rain), switchable traction control, ride-by-wire, and Cruise Control (making it the first Bonneville to be offered with a Cruise Control in India).
The Bonneville Speedmaster looks purely classic and gets a pillion seat with a chrome grab rail and is also the first Bonneville to feature a full LED headlamp. Being built on the same platform as that of the Bobber, there is a slight difference in the steering geometry of the Speedmaster as it slightly gets a different and slightly smaller rake angle. The palm grips are repositioned and the swept-back handlebars and forward-set foot pegs give the rider a laid-back and more relaxed riding position.
Suspension duties are carried out by KYB 41 mm forks with 90mm travel at front and a KYB monoshock with linkage and stepped preload adjuster with 73.3mm wheel travel at the rear. The new Speedmaster rides on 16-inch, 32 spoke wheels (both front and rear) with Avon tyres – 130/90 at the front and 150/80 at the rear. Stopping power is provided by twin 310mm disc, Brembo 2-piston floating callipers at the front and a single 255mm disc, Nissin single piston floating calliper at the rear, while ABS is offered as standard on both the wheels.
Its dry weight is at 245.5kg and the fuel tank capacity is at 12L while the claimed mileage is of 23.25 km/l.
