Great Wall Motors has introduced a new touring motorcycle, the S2000, in China under its new two-wheeler brand, Souo. The S2000, a formidable rival to the Honda Goldwing, made its debut at the Beijing International Motorcycle Exhibition 2024, drawing significant attention for its impressive engine displacement and cylinder configuration.
The S2000 is powered by a 2000cc, flat-eight engine paired with an eight-speed DCT, housed in a cast aluminum frame. While official performance figures are yet to be disclosed, the 6,000rpm redline visible on the display suggests a tuning for strong low-end torque. The display also indicates a maximum speed of 240kmph, which is likely close to its real-world top speed. This engine boasts the highest number of cylinders ever seen in a motorcycle, surpassing its closest competitors, the six-cylinder Honda Goldwing and BMW K 1600 models.
Another standout feature of the S2000 is its advanced suspension setup. The front wheel is supported by a Hossack-style girder fork with a double wishbone and a single shock absorber. This configuration is ideal for heavy touring bikes, reducing front fork dive under braking while maintaining comfort and shock absorption. Additionally, the S2000 is equipped with a range of features expected in a high-end tourer, including a music system with speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, heated grips and seats, an electronic parking brake, cruise control, automatic headlights, and a large TFT screen. Its bold and intimidating design complements the overall extravagance of the motorcycle.
Available in GL and ST variants, the S2000 is the first product from GWM’s Souo brand, with more models expected to follow, aiming to compete with other mainstream two-wheeler brands in China. While the international launch of this bike or brand is uncertain, the future possibilities remain open.
