In Europe, intriguing test models resembling the KTM 790 Duke have been spotted undergoing trials. These prototypes are believed to be the upcoming GasGas motorcycles, slated for launch in the region.
Evidently powered by KTM’s 799cc parallel-twin engine, the test mules showcase design cues reminiscent of the CFMoto 800 NK’s headlamp unit. GasGas recently secured trademarks for two model names in Europe: ES 800 and SM 800. Speculation suggests that the ES 800 might be an enduro bike featuring a wheel setup of 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear, while the SM 800 is anticipated to be a supermoto with 17-inch wheels at both ends.
Beneath the fresh bodywork lies the well-known Chromium-Molybdenum steel chassis housing the 799cc parallel-twin engine, delivering 105bhp and 87Nm of torque, as seen in the KTM 790 Duke. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, with both GasGas models utilizing KTM-branded J.Juan brake calipers.
While the GasGas SM 800 appears ready for production, the GasGas ES 800 seems to be in the developmental stage, indicated by its oversized and unfinished radiator. Nevertheless, both bikes feature USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, with the enduro variant expected to offer greater suspension travel.
Additionally, the enduro model is equipped with dual-sport tires, while the supermoto variant is observed with road-oriented rubber. Considering the advanced state of their bodywork and components, an official European launch for these GasGas motorcycles seems imminent.
