Tata is planning to bring its much talked about Blackbird SUV to challenge the popular mid-size SUVs in the market like the Creta and Seltos.

Tata Blackbird has been in the works for quite some time now and it will challenge the mighty Hyundai Creta once it arrives on the market. SUVs are taking over the industry in almost any segment. Tata has already experienced unprecedented success with the Nexon, Harrier and Safari. Now, it wants to unleash its potential in the mid-size SUV segment with Blackbird which would sit on the X1 platform of the Nexon but will measure a bit longer to take on bigger SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Here are the details that we know so far.

Tata Blackbird – Hyundai Creta Rival

According to the rumours, the Blackbird might be a coupe version of the Nexon with certain design elements borrowed from the concept CURVV EV that Tata showcased a couple of months ago. At the front, the fascia might feature styling cues from Nexona and CURVV. We expect the LED DRLs to be positioned on the bonnet and the main headlamp cluster on the bumper as with most modern SUVs, the bumper will be sporty with rugged skid plates, the overall silhouette might lend slightly toward the coupe body shape with a sloping roofline at the rear, the taillamp cluster might feature LED unit connected by a glass panel to accentuate the width at the rear.

Specifications:

The official word is not out yet but many believe that the Blackbird might come powered by a new 1.5-litre petrol engine that could produce healthy power figures in the vicinity of 160 hp. On the diesel front, the 1.5-litre unit of the Nexon could be upgraded to churn out a higher output. As far as the transmission goes, the mid-size SUV will most likely come with the option of manual and automatic gearboxes. At a later stage, it could even get an all-electric variant much like that of the Nexon. This will help it take on the full-hybrid version of the new Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder.
