The General Motors has unveiled its next generation Cruze and the car looks just classy. The car is expected to go on sale in 40 international markets in 2016 and we can expect the new Cruze in India by 2017.
The recently unveiled Cruze’s styling is different from the car that was unveiled at the Chinese market last year.
The next generation Cruze gets redesigned exteriors and interiors as well. The new Cruze will get the General Motor’s new D2 Four-Wheel-Drive platform.
The styling of the new Cruze is inspired from its present Chevrolet cars and the Volt electric car too. On the exterior side, the new Cruze will now get projector headlamps and LED daytime running lamps on top models.
Like the current Cruze, the new Chevrolet Cruze will also get the dual-cockpit design on the interior and will come with a piano-black or brushed-aluminium finish along with multiple soft-touch surfaces on the dash and other parts. A large infotainment screen will house at the centre of the dashboard and along with two vertical air-con vents surrounding it.
The new Cruze now grows longer in length i.e. 69 mm to its total 4666 mm and wheelbase now becomes 15 mm longer which makes it longer than the current Cruze. On the interior side it gets more 51 mm legroom and the new Cruze now weighs 113 kgs lighter than its predecessor. The build-quality of the new car will be 27% stiffer than the current car.
The new gen Cruze is likely to come to India with two new engine options. The 2L diesel engine will be replaced by a smaller, well refined 1.6L turbo-diesel engine, which is butter smooth and whisper quiet. Chevrolet will offer the new Cruze also with a petrol engine option – which is the Ecotec 1.4L turbo-petrol with direct-injection producing 153 BHP and 24.47 kgm of torque.
The new Chevrolet Cruze gets MacPherson strut suspension at the front and comes with a torsion beam axle at the rear on the lower models and an enhanced Z-link design axle on top variants.
The car’s safety features include 10 airbags; ESP, rollover mitigation and ABS as standard on all its variants and also include Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, four-wheel disc brakes, a rear-view camera and the GM OnStar with a 4G LTE system along with a Wi-Fi hotspot feature.
